Whether you have the odd tiff, full-blown arguments, are caught in a negative communication spiral, have grown apart emotionally or you have simply stopped having fun - very few marriages exist problem-free.
Second marriages can be even more challenging, especially if there are children involved.
"Take heart: marriage is more elegant than we dare believe. It can bring you bliss, but it’s harder than many people recognize." – David Schnarch
For many of us our first instinct is to try and work through the problems alone, however it can be incredibly beneficial to seek professional help.
As a professionally qualified and experienced marriage counsellor, I am here for both of you, to help and support you both to make your marriage the best it can be.
My aim is to try and bring you both back to being close and connected and able to share life's experiences - both the positive and negative. To help you to work through issues in a close and collaborative way. To learn to lean on each other and draw on each other's strengths and qualities. To work towards the holy grail of marriage - to understand and be understood by your partner.
When couples separate and divorce, this can present a particular set of challenges when children are involved, particularly if there is animosity or conflict between the parents. I have over 10 years experience working with separated parents to help them (from both a counselling and educational perspective) to manage this shift from couple to co-parenting team. I can assist whether you attend alone or with the other parent of your child/ren.
It is important that you feel comfortable with your counsellor. For this reason I offer a brief 10 minute telephone consultation prior to your first session free of charge. This way you can give me a brief overview of why you are seeking counselling and get a sense of how we might work together.
